I went into this book knowing nothing about it so I had literally no idea what to expect. I can honestly say that by the end of the book I came away glad that I'd spent the time reading this story and of course, I was left wanting more. Without giving too much away the story is of a teenager dealing with the usual teenage problems who finds out there might be something more to his life. He has to grapple with the responsibility and consequences of a major change in his life and he does so while being probably one of the most relatable characters I've ever read in a book (It has nothing to do with the fact that I grew up in Yorkshire, honest). The story is engaging, well paced and well written. My only regret is that it wasn't longer.

First Born Millennium Children J Daniel West Books Reviews
A great mix of supernatural/sci-fi and a true coming of age story. The descriptive language really helps the reader to visualise the setting as if you were watching it on a screen. A nice easy read and just long enough. Definitely worth a read.
Didn't know what to expect but I really enjoyed it. You can tell the writer knows his subject and you can really feel their inner turmoil and it was so well written. At some points it was so tense I was reading through the gaps of my fingers. Really looking forward to the next instalment.
I know a book is good if I become so absorbed in it that I forget about my surroundings and time passes in an instant. That's exactly what happened reading this. I'd go for a 'quick read if a couple of chapters' and suddenly it's hours later and I'm hungry.
I often forgot I was reading a debut book, having to check which of my favourite YA authors wrote this one (I have a new favourite to add to my list now!)
I enjoyed how, despite one of the main themes of the book (trying not to spoil anything here), I found it so relatable. The book hits on relevant issues tastefully and respectfully, yet helps to drive how important they are.
So fresh and fast paced! JD West wrote a coming of age origin story with a relatable and relevant character who is compelling and honest. First Born is moderately angsty but filled with gorgeous imagery and brisk energy. We're pulled along as Kyle struggles through tribulations many young readers will easily identify with before he finds himself and a new ability that gives him strength and becomes a tremendous burden. First Born is an intelligent first installment of what will undoubtedly be an exciting series.
