My first reading adventure as a teen was in the fantasy genre and I was pleasantly drawn back to those days by this excellently written young adult fantasy by R. Castro. The author draws one into the story with ease as she lets the reader get to know the characters. Viviana and Zoe are artfully presented to us as two, normal, modern teenagers who lead normal lives, until they develop powers given to them by the gods of ancient Aztec mythology, throwing them into a turbulent role as protectors of all mankind...and the world.The girls, along with two others become The Elemantal Linx, The Tetrad.
Their mission is to defend the world against the Moon God and his followers, who are bent on destroying everything in existence. But, the four teenagers; Viviana, Zoe, Ollin, and Natalie, must first learn to harness and control their awesome powers and learn to work as a team before they stand a chance at defeating the ancient gods. They must put aside their childish jealousies and become a cohesive unit with coordinated actions before they can hope to defeat the awesome evil of the old gods.
I appreciated the author's inclusion of a deity index which listed the ancient gods and helped me keep track of them. It made keeping up with the gods and their functions easier.
This is a clean, exciting, slightly romantic, young adult fantasy that I highly recommend to all readers of this genre.

A few days ago I couldn’t get my girlfriends attention, because she was engulfed in this book. So, I got my own copy in hopes that maybe I could distract her with talking about the book, and score some good boyfriend points. Little did I know I would find myself equally captured by this novel. I thought it might be too “girly” but I was wrong. I found myself turning the pages, grasping at each sentence, wanting to learn more about the Aztec Empire and history. I don’t read often, but this was worth it with a good amount of action and a great setup up for what I can only imagine will be an equally great series.
R. Castro's Elemental Linx is truly brilliant. The mixture of modern and ancient Aztec culture is flawless and intriguing. Viviana is living life as a normal teenager when she's suddenly thrown into a battle to protect all life on Earth from the ancient Moon God who is bent on destroying everything. She and others like her carry elemental powers that will surely aid them in their fight against evil. The names of all the Aztec gods were confusing and I am thankful for the deity index with pronunciations provided by the author. If you are looking for a fantasy that will take you on a wondrous adventure through time and history, Elemental Linx has all that and more. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and after I completed my the initial reading, I decided to purchase a paperback of the finished product for myself. The bottom line is, this book had me hooked and I impatiently await the next release to see what unfolds with Viviana in the future.
The Elemental Linx, Tetrad Prophecy takes you on a journey with Viviana who discovers that she is one of the four Elemental Linx and prepares for their battle with the Moon God and their followers. As if being a teen in their junior year isn't challenging enough, Viviana's challenges with her newly discovered superpower and responsibility take her on a emotional rollercoaster of a new responsibility she never imagined would have. The author's descriptive writing channels the Native American story telling techniques as well as taking you through the voyage of the Northwest indigenous spirit. You are sucked into the story and can feel yourself there right next to our protagonist every step of the way. The style of writing used keeps you on the edge of your seat eager for what is to come next.
I think this a great read for young adults and adults in general. If you enjoyed the Twilight fantasy series, you'll find yourself even more wrapped up with the Tetrad Prophecy. Look out, Stephany Myers, R. Castro's series is about to take over.
