I should be doing school work right now, which is a lot by this and next week. I am swamped with it. Yet I can't bring my brain to pay enough attention to the tasks I have because of Virtual Arcana. Karen, what kind of sorcery you put into your books?! I can't peel my eyes from them.
I am very confused and bewildered to say the least, but in an enjoyable way. The little confusion I had in the previous episode makes a tiny bit more sense, and has left me satisfied that Kelsey has noticed this... strange things as well.
My theories! GOSH I AM SO FRUSTRATED! I NEED ANSWERS! How do you bribe an author into giving you answers asap without all the emotional breakdowns? Because guys, after reading this one, I am very afraid, even more than before.
In this episode some of my earlier questions are answered and many more arise. We are thrown from here to there with no concrete idea of what is real and what is virtual reality, which I love to no end because that's probably how Kelsey feels.
One thing that keeps bothering me, but that's just preference really, is the secrecy everyone has when it comes to Kelsey. I NEED ANSWERS! And your riddles aren't helping. Just when we're almost there to get the ultimate truth, MEEEEHH no something bad happens and you have to wait until the catastrophic next episode where everything comes falling down. I can feel it. Books like Allegiant have made me even more aware of when these moments will happen.
(I'm ranting. Sorry).
Once again, I am in love with Kelsey's (Karen's) way of expressing love towards literature and it's nice that we can appreciate that feeling she gets through the story since that was one of the main things that happened in the zero episode, The Fool, that made Xander and Kelsey connect even more.
So... Great episode, I tip my hat towards Karen, and will see what happens in the next episode. The romance, the dangers, bending realities and mind-boggling twists are getting even more complicated now that the end is near...

PS. Them cliffhangers always frustrate me in all her books... Dang it. These stories hook you in for good once you give them a chance xD
Mind Blown! That's how I'm feeling right now! I am confused, lost and don't have a clue what is going on......And I'm loving every second of it. Just when I think I have a hold on what's happening, I'm thrown a curve ball that just wipes away everything that I was thinking.
The Emperor picks up right where the last book left off. Kelsey has been busted by her father for sneaking out and will now have to face the consequences of her actions. As she is apprehended, the lines of real and VR are once again blurred. Things start happening to Kelsey that makes her question her sanity. There are gaps in her memory and she needs more answers. I NEED answers.
With each installment, I am finding myself getting more and more lost in the world of Arcana. I need answers. I am just as desperate as Kelsey to find out the truth! Nothing is as it seems. My mind is a mess trying to solve this riddle! I can not wait for the next installment and see where Karen Amanda Hooper will take us next!

This latest installment of the Virtual Arcana will really mess with your head. There is some Matrix level craziness going on, and I am absolutely loving it.
I felt like this entire novella was like “hey, you, reader, I’m trying to tell you something. Good luck trying to figure out what it is. Tee hee.” There’s not even much to say here, because I don’t want to give anything away, and there are only so many vague statements I can make.
Kelsey remains horribly confused about everything; she’s a bit annoying, sure, but if I were in her situation, I’d probably be annoying too. Xander took a little bit of a different turn here, which was very interesting and intriguing. He started playing a little to the tune of “this has to be done” rather than “protect Kelsey at all costs” which makes me really really really want to know his motivations and his back story and just what the heck his involvement in all this is really about.
I guess you could rename The Emperor “Dreams vs. Reality”. That’s about as spoilery as I want to get here, because you just need to read it for yourself. Kelsey starts living moments that she isn’t sure are real, waking up in places she doesn’t remember getting to. And it continues to get more trippy from there. VR and real life start blurring together into what is an indistinguishable timeline of muddled events. And the reader is living it just as Kelsey is.
Dang these are hard to review. Pretty much all I can say is do yourself a favor and pick this series up ASAP.
